New house design : 6/14/09

See what land is for sale under search: Alaska land/acreage. Then go and visit the property and test some rocks then buy it.

Goal: Build one new house every year. Mostly in the summer if I'm doing it in Alaska.

Make the houses out of stone because it's free except for sweat equity.

Roof: Make the roof out of long stones or out of logs. Have an A-frame roof, or a flat roof. may put a tarp over the roof for a quick fix.

Water proofing: Seal the cracks with a flexible sealant for when the house settles. Maybe spray foam or silicone or use a blow torch to melt the rock together. Or put clay into the cracks and use the blow torch on that. These all need to be tested to find the best one.

Air conditioning: Have natural air flow through a chimney that pulls air from under ground into the house.

Phone: Since you're all alone you only need an emergency phone. Rely on yourself.

Entertainment: Computer and TV and games are just an escape from reality. Why not have fun constructing things and being on vacation and seeing new things, TV is old.

Water: Dig an artificial pond, then distill the water.

Shower: Rag and warm soapy water or distilled alcohol for complete self sufficiency. But to get fancy I might have an outdoor open air, stone slab shower that has a see through tank so that the shower water is solar heated and maybe mirrors to make it hotter.

Medical: Alcohol and tape or cloth as a bandage.

Lighting: When getting started just have a triggerlite headlamp. But for long lasting light have LED. With any kind of power generation you need batteries, which go bad. So rather have an alcohol lamp, or a crank powered headlamp that has a capacitor to store the energy which won't fail.

Heating: Have a fireplace for infra red heat. This also lets wind flow underground into the house and out the chimney.

Meat: With a gun you can have all of the poultry you want(because birds just sit there most of the time). But you can also have all of the large animal meat you want in Alaska. Then always remember to smoke the meat with either green wood and leaves or just wet wood. The smoking both dries the meat and the smoke is antibacterial, making the meat last way longer. Then just cook it when hungry. Fishing is just luck lots of times, so use a net or trap for better results. Rabbits can be caught with a simple noose.

Vegetables: Pick wild foods and also plant non native foods then water with pond water or lake water. Let some go to seed so that you're totally self sufficient.

Cooking: Over fire, or rocket stove, or in a sand oven, or in a dutch oven, or a wood coal barbecue grill.

Exercise: Outdoor exercise equipment sounds fun to me.

I'm in training to become self sufficient for when the population becomes so great that nothing is affordable and the dollar also becomes worthless.
